Laryngoscopy - Care

No smoking after surgery AND before surgery or at any time.

If your vocal cords were operated upon, we recommend the following:  

No talking for three days.

Voice rest for three weeks.  When you do talk do not strain your voice.  Talk normally, do not scream, shout or whisper.

Laryngoscopy - Complications

1.  Change in voice or chronic hoarsness.

2.  Airway obstruction. 

3.  Injury, chipping or avulsion of teeth. 

4.  Tearing of the esophagus, hypopharynx, resulting in severe infection.  

5.  Allergic reactions to drugs, bleeding, infection and even death.
